Scan a Barcode with Your Camera

Choose Start Camera and allow access when your browser prompts. The scanner prefers a rear camera when it can identify one and shows a camera selector when multiple devices are available. Hold the full barcode within the guide until a result appears.

After detection, the camera stops and the result shows both the exact format and value. A flashlight control is hidden unless the active camera and browser expose supported torch controls.

Camera Technique for Linear Barcodes

A long 1D barcode often scans better when it fills much of the width without touching the frame edges. Keep the bars vertical in the image and the barcode itself level.

Camera Permission and Privacy

The site never requests camera access on load. Camera scanning requires HTTPS on the deployed site, and streams are cleaned up after a result, mode change, hidden page, or navigation. Frames and decoded values are not uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the scanner ask for camera permission?

The browser requires permission before a website can access a camera. It is requested only after you select Start Camera.

Can I switch to the rear camera?

Yes when the browser reports multiple cameras. The scanner also prefers labels that indicate a rear or environment camera.

Why is the flashlight button missing?

It appears only when the active camera and browser report reliable torch support.
